Make Educated Purchases

We cannot stress enough how important this is. Every purchase you make supports something. You can either support a corporation that exploits people, animals, and the environment, or you can buy items from companies that help and invest in the world. It’s hard to change this all at once, especially if you’re used to shopping for bargains, but try changing just a few of your purchases to make them better reflect the things you value. At the moment more than 60 non-governmental organizations are campaigning for binding legislation what would require companies to investigate there supply chains and publicly report their findings. This would be a landmark opportunity to help put things right. Until then, it is our job as consumers to do the investigating. Know what you are buying and where it comes from—insist on verification and/or third party references. Look for conflict free alternatives and support companies that give back to a cause you believe in.

Quite possibly the easiest and quickest, yet most impactful thing you can do. Imaging the world if everyone that has ever purchased a diamond sponsored one child! The USA accounts for 50% of global diamond jewelry sales. Approximately 70% of women in the USA own an earth-mined diamond. That’s approximately 1,500,000 people just in the USA.
